Can Anyone Join?
We welcome anyone who wants to play games and have fun. Our collection contains simple games for children and families as well as more complex and challenging games for teenagers and adults. You don’t have to be a member of the church to come along, we have plenty of space at the tables. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Teenagers aged 16 and over must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on their first visit, then fill in an emergency contact permission form to attend on their own afterwards.
How Much Is It?
It is free to come along and play. There will be a chance to buy refreshments such as tea and biscuits. Donations of money, time, or games will be greatly appreciated and will be used to expand our collection and be put towards the upkeep of the building.
Do I Need to Bring a Board Game?
We have a good number of games, but if you have a game you want to play then feel free to bring it along. Please bear in mind the time we have to play. If there is a game you think we should purchase, let us know, and when we have some money, we’ll aim to do so. You can find a list of our board games on the site board game geek.
Is This a Church Thing?
This group is being run by Acomb Methodist Church. We want to provide a safe and fun place for the wider community of Acomb and York to play board games and make friends. You don’t need to be a person of faith to take part, but do ask that you adhere to our rules of tolerance and compassion while in attendance. If you do want to talk about faith or have someone pray for you, we are happy to help, but we will never force you to take part in anything you aren’t comfortable with.
You mentioned rules, what are they?
We have the following rules that we ask you to abide by:
- Try to have fun in the playing, not just the winning.
- Don’t be mean to other players
- Don’t damage game pieces/cards.
- Put the games back properly once you have finished.
- Don’t cheat (unless the game tells you to.)
- Help with rules if you know them.
- Attack player’s pieces, not the players themselves.
- The best win is when everyone had fun playing.
Where Is it?
We meet in Room 5 of Acomb Methodist Church. You can find us at the end of the corridor, just follow the signs and the music.
