50th Jubilee Project (2014-2024) – What We Did!

Acomb Methodist church celebrated 50 years in its present building and 270 years of Methodism in Acomb in 2014.   In biblical terms, 50 years is a jubilee, and an encouragement to return home and start afresh with life.  It was also the opportunity for us to create a vision for the next 10 years of our church and its mission.

Work to form that vision began two years previously in 2012, with a survey of our community, and lots of reflection on what we do, who we are, and what our calling is.

The result of that period of reflection was our 50th Jubilee Project.  An ambitious plan was to grow in the richness of our worshipping life, as churches together, to serve our communities’ needs more effectively, to reduce our carbon footprint, to offer a retreat garden space for our city and finally to redevelop our building to serve the future.

The final pieces of our Jubilee Project landed in 2023, with our new Garden Studios, and the refurbishments of Room 4, with the creation of a two storey storage space where the stage used to be. We were also delighted to take the first step in our journey to be an Eco-church, being awarded the Bronze level award.

You can click the images below to find out more about what we did, but we also enclose a video showing some of the delights of the community garden, our community cafe in action and the solar panels we installed for the new garden studio.
